Two-Healer Karazhan is hard!
For a priest coming out of the shadow era… While the guild farms raids, I’m still progressing through healing.
Even though I respecced 2 weeks ago to help alleviate the problem of low healers, I haven’t actually raided much. >.> Work has kept me quite busy, as being in the finance world during earnings season is sure to do. Since Catalyst members are mostly older people (college students and up), we don’t raid until most of us are home from work. I leave work later than the average person as is and it doesn’t help when I have to stay even later.
So far, I’ve main-healed Gruul’s and off-healed ZA (i.e. healed main tank and healed off-tank). There was at least a full party of healers in Gruul’s. In ZA, there was a pally and a tree with me (heh à la the previous post) so it really wasn’t a huge test of skill there.
Last night, I was asked to sub in for one of our pallies, who was locked in with one of our Kara groups. He, for some reason, didn’t show and I was the only healer on who wasn’t locked. Since we’ve been low on healers, all our Kara runs have gone with 2 healers (some combination of pally, priest, and tree). And you know how healers do – they make everything look so easy…
So, I’m zoning in for the 2nd wing (only Netherspite and Prince left – well, Chess too but that doesn’t really count), sauntering in with my newly enchanted /y GAVEL OF PURE LIGHT /rawr, thinking, “Two bosses left. Hm, be in here for an hour and go do my Netherwing dailies.” I proceeded to get my teeth kicked in on the first pull of the night. Literally. I was the only priest. I shackled, proceeded to heal, and got burned down faster than a warrior tanking in arms gear when my shackle broke. /cry I am the epitome of squishy.
One of our elemental shammies kept pulling aggro. Needless to say, he didn’t get any heals until he learned his lesson… He learned after the second time I let him die though so I can’t complain. The night ended with a one-shot Prince down and no deaths so I would have to say my learning curve was sufficiently timely and steep.

Takeaways:
- Mana management is not a problem. Timing the heals still needs work.
- Not healing DPS if they pull aggro to teach them a lesson works better than healing + telling them to watch their threat.
- Binding Heal is a priest’s saving grace.
- Don’t stand in Void Portals! It doesn’t regen mana. /huff
For those of you reading this, happy Friday and have a good weekend.
