/Rant: Know-It-Alls know nothing at all.
Now, to be clear, I have no problem with criticism. This is conditional on the fact that you’ve done your research, you fully understand all the mechanics of the process and end performance, and show knowledge – not just shallow knowledge – but true knowledge of what you’re talking about.
This means that if you are a tree and have never, ever healed as any other class (especially a priest) and haven’t taken the time to do the research behind it, you really shouldn’t open your mouth to offer your 2 cents when no one asked for it. Let us watch the chaos that ensued (and let us call him “xXtReEXx” as such a silly name fits his silly attitude and I wouldn’t want to insult all the great resto druids that are out there):
[Raid]
xXtReEXx: Anyone have any mana pots? I’m down to my last one. I used 3 pots on that last [Halazzi] fight.
Me: Heehee. I haven’t used a pot at all tonight.
xXtReEXx: Then you’re not healing enough.
Me: Hahaha.
The tree makes a point to send me a tell:
xXtReEXx: I’m not kidding. If you’re not using pots, you’re not healing enough.
Me: The tanks stayed up fine.
xXtReEXx: At my expense.
Me: Excuse me?
xXtReEXx: I had to use a pot and freak out and everything.
Me: And why were you freaking out?
xXtReEXx: I was spamming regrowths at the end and that’s just not normal.
Me: Everywhere? As in who? You’re raid heal, isn’t that normal?
xXtReEXx: Including the tanks.
Me: Well, that just means you don’t trust your healers.
xXtReEXx: Did you SEE the hots on them?
Well, more or less how it went. The remainder of the tell was just some tongue lashing and a brisk chastizing on manners.
Okay, so I can see how people would think that I’m not healing enough if I’m not using enough mana to use pots. However, I think he failed to remember priests have a shadowfiend (which, for me, regens 50% of my mana pool) and he also failed to notice our pally has the spellsurge enchant (+10 mana every second). Well, I guess I can’t blame him for not noticing, as he wasn’t in the same group w/ the pally and me.
HIS basis for judgment, however, was because he had spoken with another holy priest in our guild who had healed the Halazzi fight with him before and the priest said he also used about 2-3 pots during the fight. Can we say 5SR? Although, this might have been due to the problem our healers have that I mentioned in the previous post.
I cancel-cast my GH constantly and spend as much time as I can outside of the 5SR window by doubling up on frisbee + Renew and just overall timing my heals to both the tanks and the raid. As I understand it, trees don’t really make a point to heal according to the 5SR, as they are constantly expending mana HOT-ing, especially as RH. But that hardly means that all healing classes have that same problem! [Had an epiphany: After reading Kesela's post on squishies vs. shieldies at her blog, Witch Doctor, trees also practice staying outside of the 5SR window as much as possible. Well, I don't know if this helps xXtReEXx's case or not... ;) I love shaman blogs btw.]
There, I feel better.
/hmph
I had to LOL.
I love how the person thinks they can judge your healing on if you “had” to use a mana pot.
Funny. Glad it happened to you instead of me though since I would not of been nearly as nice.
Hehe… Sounds like they need to work a bit on their mana management skills. They had to use a pot and freak out. That is really something. :D
It can be really irriating when people accuse you of not healing because you didn’t use pots. There have been Gruul fights that were successful where I didn’t have to use my innervate or a pot and I outhealed a few guildies. Pots do not equal performance.
@dsp:
Thanks, dsp! You’re the first to comment too! Hm, perhaps I should have thought of a prize…
@Ess:
LOL! /agree
@Auryann:
/high 5! Go good mana managers!
